Title: Lead AI Scientist for Mental Health Research (Python/SQL)

Our client uses advanced AI and NLP to transform mental health and dementia research.

Their advanced platform enhances patient characterization and supports precision neuroscience, enabling targeted interventions and improving patient outcomes.

They are looking for a Lead AI Scientist who will lead a team in developing NLP models to

structure psychiatric electronic health records, aiding research in mental health and dementia.

The role involves close collaboration with research, engineering, and client engagement teams to ensure the models are accurate, clinically valid, and effective for research applications.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing a team of AI scientists and healthcare data analysts, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Developing and refining Natural Language Processing (NLP) models to structure psychiatric electronic health records.
  • Collaborating with research, engineering, and client engagement teams to integrate AI models into the data processing pipeline and ensure their outputs meet user requirements.
  • Conducting exploratory research, prototyping, and literature reviews to develop novel AI applications for mental health and dementia.
  • Ensuring the accuracy, clinical validity, transparency, and scalability of AI models.
  • Communicating AI development plans and progress to the wider company.
  • Disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications, client presentations, and conference attendance.
  • Growing the network of academic, healthcare, and industry collaborators in the clinical AI space.
  • Preparing grant applications to support AI development projects.

 

Essential Skills and Requirements:

  • PhD-level qualification (or equivalent industry experience) in a field with a substantial component of applied AI methods.
  • High level of knowledge in machine learning methods, applications, and validation methods.
  • Expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, including experience with Large Language Models for text processing.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience in team leadership, mentorship, or supervision, with a desire to help grow the team of AI scientists through line management and technical leadership.
  • Strong interest in healthcare applications of AI and NLP, particularly in mental health and dementia.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts and communicate effectively with non-expert stakeholders in various formats (verbal, written documents, presentations).

 

Highly Desired Skills and Requirements:

  • Experience in line management.
  • Sector experience in mental health research, data, and/or care provision.
  • Experience working in a collaborative version control workflow (e.g., Git, Bitbucket).
  • Knowledge of SQL, particularly PostgreSQL.
